I really do like this book, but it is way overpriced for what it is. For $20, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat, but for upwards of $50, there is not enough here to justify the price.
This book is worth less than half of the cost. The information is useful for beginners, but intermediate and advanced stitchers could do their own patterns on graph paper from the dollar store. I give three stars for content and one star for cost. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY. My advice is for intermediate and advanced stitchers to do their own patterns with a little trial and error (I have and it turned out well!), and for beginners to check their local library for the book. Happy stitching!
Very thorough book from materials needed to how to finish/frame the completed project! The book size is large so you can see the details you'll be stitching and can use the book as a reference while stitching. The little touch that made me happy was that a pit bull pattern was included in the animals section. Highly recommend registering your book on the stitch people website so you can get access to the FB group and extra PDFs
I'm new to cross stitch, so I went out on a limb to try this book. It was easy to design my own people! I wasn't happy with my first design, but that wasn't the book's fault, it was my own lack of creativity. My second one came out better than I could have hoped for. Everything is laid out step by step, and when I didn't follow one of the steps, I regretted it. It has everything I need.
I held back at first at purchasing the book because I was unsure if, at the price point, it would help me. After making a few portraits using free resources and having to adapt for different scenarios I decided to take the plunge. Best purchase ever! So many suggestions on how to personalize the portraits. And size guides for everything. If you want the headache taken out of planning this is the book for you. I am not new to the world of cross stitch but if you are they have great instructions on what to buy and how to do stitches.
Stitch People is a very fun and thorough book. Want to stitch your family or some other people? This will tell you how, from how to choose figures and various attributes, to how to make fine details such as hair. There are pets and accessories, as well. It took me two days to stitch my family of 6 (three people and three pets) from designing and placement to execution. There are some cute examples at the back of the book to see what some others have done. There is also ongoing support on the website and a facebook group. I could see using this book for a lot of different projects. Well worth it!
I'm relatively new to cross stitching, and this book is a terrific resource. Such helpful information presented in an easy to understand way. I've read reviews that gripe about the cost, and I totally disagree. There's tons of great information in here, and I appreciate that this is a small company who is busting their tail to provide an outstanding resource.
I’m in love with this book. There’s such a wide variety of designs to choose from and I’ve had so much fun customizing “portraits†for friends and family. The book itself is spiral bound, which I find quite convenient, and the pages are all durable, coated pages that should last a long time.
